And a resident of Gainesville, FL died Thursday March 7, 2013 at his home. He was a native of St. Bernard Parish where he spent a lot of his childhood growing up around his aunts, uncles and cousins and grandparents. Eddie, his brother Ronnie and cousins enjoyed helping grandpa and grandma in their vegetable garden in Chalmette. Many Sunday afternoons were spent with his other grandparents in New Orleans for barbeques and other outdoor activities with his aunt and uncles and cousin. While living in Tennessee Eddie and his brother enjoyed the high adventures of caving, repelling, canoeing, horseback riding and fishing. Eddie was a team player and enjoyed playing soccer and baseball for the community and school teams. Eddie enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandpa on return visits. Eddie returned to St. Bernard and attended Chalmette High School and Chalmette Community College. He then joined the U.S. Army and graduated from Fort Benning, GA as an infantryman. Edward was stationed in Seattle for some time following graduation, while in Seattle Eddie served in the color guard for the military funeral services.

Mother: Betty Rose Warren Mehrtens of Mt. Hermon

Father: Ronald K. Mehrtens, Jr. of New Orleans

Brother and Sister in law: Ronald K. Mehrtens, III and Amy Mehrtens of Charlottesville, VA

Nephew: James McNally Mehrtens

4 Aunts: Billie W. McDonald, Nancy W. Budde, Debbie W. Tackett, Debra Ann Mehrtens

5 Uncles: Wilton B. “Sonny” Warren, Jr., Richard Alton Warren, Jimmy C. Warren, Toby Karl Warren, Stephen Mehrtens

Also numerous cousins and other family members

He was preceded in death by grandparents Wilton B. Warren, Sr. and Velma Smith Warren, and Ronald K. Mehrtens, Sr and Joan O’Connor Mehrtens, an aunt Iris Geraldine Warren Boyce, and uncles Shelby Lee Warren, Tommy Glynn Warren, and Gary AllenMehrtens.

Visitation will be Thursday March 14th at Stony Point Missionary Baptist Church; 37030 Hwy 10, Franklinton; from 10 am until 2 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm in the church with Eld. Donnie Broome officiating. Burial will follow in the Roseland/Arcola cemetery.
