Harley Kuhl McKinney

HARLEY KUHL McKINNEY, AGE 81 Residents of the Mt. Hermon community, numerous friends and family in Texas, Tennessee and various parts of the country were saddened by the death of their loved one, Harley Kuhl “Mac” McKinney on Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Mr. McKinney was born in Luling, Texas, on September 4, 1926, and called Orange, Texas home from 1941. He was a charter member of the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department, and an avid American Indian artifact collector. M r. McKinney was a maintenance mechanic for E.I. DuPont, Sabine River Works, Orange, Texas for 34 years. He retired in Mt. Hermon, Louisiana for 22 years following his employment with DuPont. Many may not remember Mr. McKinney by name, but will remember him fondly as “the peach man”, from the peach orchard “hobby” he took up during his long retirement. He was an Armed Services Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre and in Occupied Japan immediately following the Armistice. He was 81 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Carolyn McGehee McKinney of Mt. Hermon, his son and daughter in law, Kyle and Amy Miller McKinney; his daughter Mimi McKinney and his only grandson and namesake, Harlan Kohl Rester all of Mt. Hermon. Surviving brothers and sisters in law include Rocellus “Celly” and Shirley McKinney, Sr. and Richard and Dianne McKinney all of Orange, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Claudda McKinney Barrett and brother in law John Barrett both of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and one sister in law Sandy McGehee Reed of Kentwood and two brothers in law A. W. Reed and John Henry Jr., also both of Kentwood, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Claude and Leona McKinney, and Telva Coleen McKinney, all of Luling, Texas; his mothers and fathers in law, Basil and Vivian Porter Miller, of Mt. Hermon and John Henry and Norma Toche McGehee, Sr. of Kentwood, also dearly loved nephews Rocellus McKinney, Jr. and Russell Preston Roberts. Visitation will be at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Friday, November 9, 2007 from 6 PM until 8 PM and after 8 AM Saturday, November 10, 2007. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Saturday at the church with Rev. Dale Parker, Rev. Ed Jenkins and Rev. Rufus Branch officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery
