Joseph Scott Mitchell

CAPTAIN JOSEPH SCOTT MITCHELL, AGE 45 And a resident of Kurtistown, Hawaii passed away Wednesday September 29, 2021 while vacationing with his beloved wife, Rosemary Lynne Mitchell in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He was employed with Florida Marine Transporters for 17 years working his way up from deckhand to becoming a Towboat Captain of the Motor Vessel “Brees”. He was a dedicated employee that knew the Mississippi River and Ohio River well. Scott was a hard worker and was not afraid to take on any task or job that needed to be done at any given time. He seemed to have the skills and drive necessary for whatever he decided to attempt. Scott loved Hawaii, having lived there as a child when his father was in the Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor. His dream from then on was to live there and that dream came true when he and Rosemary moved there in 2018. Scott loved the fishing opportunities along with the beautiful scenery all around him, wherever he looked. To him it truly was paradise. He felt he had the best of both worlds, because he not only lived there, he still worked on the mainland giving him opportunity to visit family and friends periodically. Scott loved his family and friends and his devotion to both was deep and unending. Scott is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 15 years Rosemary Mitchell; his parents Robert and Estelle Mitchell; his brother Ricky Mitchell; 5 nieces Crystal and Tiffany Davis, Sarah Newcomb, Melody and Jasmine Mitchell and 2 nephews Dylan and Michael Mitchell; uncles Jimmy Mitchell and Ray Williams and aunts Betty Lou Rester, Ellen Williams, and Barbara Williams; his good friend and brother in law Craig Newcomb and Roy Davis; his father in law and mother in law Bob and Judy Simmons and numerous cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother Stacy Floyd Mitchell, paternal grandparents Rhoda and Emily Mitchell, maternal grandparents Harvey and Edith Williams, uncles Pete Williams and Jerry Rester and his beloved dog “Little Girl” Visitation will be at Plainview Baptist Church (55179 Hwy. 60, Bogalusa, LA) on Saturday October 9th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A memorial service will be held in the church at 2:00 pm Saturday with Rev. Field Thigpen officiating.
