Mildred Brown Walther

MILDRED BROWN WALTHER, AGE 84 And a resident of Hammond died at 11:45 am Monday July 18, 2016 at her home. She was a former longtime resident of Franklinton and a native of New Orleans where she had retired from the Orleans Parish School System. Millie loved the arts and upon retiring later became the art teacher at Bowling Green School for several years. She enjoyed painting, reading, listening to music and working crossword puzzles. She liked spending time with her friends at the Council on Aging in Hammond and was a founding member of the Franklinton G.R.I.T.S. Red Hat Society, with whom she enjoyed many social outings through the years. Millie liked to sing and act with The Franklinton Community Theater and also was a member of the Washington Parish Art Association. Prior to her move to Hammond, she was affiliated with Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church near Franklinton where she was baptized. Survived by: 2 Sons and Daughters in law: Richard Lawrence Walther and Cindy Walther of Hammond, Michael Frederick Walther and Marla Walther of Johnstown, PA, Daughter and Son in law: Susan Rose Mahoney and Rich Mahoney of Metairie 10 Grandchildren and Spouses: Melanie and Will Herrera, Katie Walther and fiancé Chris Satter, Chris Walther, Jason Walther, Margaret Walther, Taylor Walther, Patrick Walther, Michael Walther, Jr., Emily and Michael Lipani, Michael and Bethany Donegan 3 Great-grandchildren: Indy Herrera, William Lipani, Maren Lipani Also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick L. Walther, Jr., an infant son Thomas Lawrence Walther, her parents Willie Jeptha Brown and Zoe’ Dean Wascom Brown, 3 sisters Patsy Ruth Burkart, Mary Alma O’Brien, and Ora Marie Hamilton and a brother William Edgar Brown. Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton Saturday July 23rd from 9 am until 11 am. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ty Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Silver Springs Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org).
