Norma Seal Planche

Norma Corinne Planche of DeRidder, Louisiana, was born October 24, 1940, in Varnado, Louisiana, to Louis and Pollyann Williams Seal. She passed from this life on January 13, 2014, at the Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder. Norma graduated from Varnado High School in 1959. Working as a secretary at the Tullos Motor Company in Bogalusa, Louisiana, she met Joseph Brewster Planche. They were married on February 28, 1962, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being stationed in several places in the United States and abroad, Norma and her family were transferred to Fort Polk, Louisiana, and began making their home in DeRidder in 1977. After retiring from the US Army in 1980, the Planches decided to remain in DeRidder. Norma’s beloved husband passed away after a short illness in 1985. Norma remained in DeRidder until her death. She kept a beautiful home for her family, ran a family farm, volunteered in her children’s classrooms, and welcomed everyone into her life with a warm smile. She especially enjoyed entertaining her children’s friends. After Scott and Pam moved from home, Norma ran a daycare and loved neighborhood and community children for over 10 years. She was known as Ms. Norma and was adored by many in DeRidder. Norma was an avid fan of LSU and the New Orleans Saints, as well as all sports. She was a member of First Baptist Church, DeRidder. Besides her parents and her husband, Norma was preceded in death by: A sister, Mata Lee Easterling, A brother, Milton Seal, A granddaughter, Daisy Elizabeth Higle, Norma is survived by: One son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Debbie Planche of Deridder, Louisiana; One daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jeremy Higle of Leh, India; Five grandchildren: J.T. and Dominique Broussard of Youngsville; Joseph, Titus, and Isaac Higle of Leh, India; Four brothers: Perry Seal, Hilton and wife Myrtle Lee Seal, Leon and wife Wilma Seal, and Silmon Seal, all of Angie, Louisiana Two sisters: Silvia Seal Slade and husband Kenneth; Annette Seal Thomas and husband Mike, all also of Angie. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Funeral services are set for Wednesday, January 15th at 10 a.m. in the First Missionary Baptist Church in Angie. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery, also in Angie. These services will be under the direction of Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, LA. There will also be a memorial service for Norma at the First Baptist Church in DeRidder on Thursday, January 16th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church, DeRidder, or to International Mountain Leadership Institute (www.mountainleadership.org).
